How can I choose the right brush for my project?

No matter the type of paint, surface, coating, or area you’re working on, Purdy® offers a wide range of premium brushes designed to handle specific tasks efficiently and deliver excellent results. You can find detailed guidance on selecting the right brush on the packaging of every Purdy brush.

How should I clean my brush after using latex or water-based paint?

Cleaning is straightforward. You can use any mild bar soap or dishwashing liquid.

How should I clean my brush after using oil-based or solvent-based paint?

Always clean your brush immediately after use. Avoid leaving it soaking in water or solvent, as this can harm the bristles. Use a compliant cleaning solution for your region and follow the instructions provided on the packaging.

How do I select the right roller cover?

Just like with brushes, it’s important to consider both the surface you’re painting and the type of coating you’re using. Purdy roller covers are made from various materials, each designed to deliver professional results in specific conditions and with certain paints.

Does the roller frame type make a difference?

Yes, using the right frame helps you work more efficiently. Purdy offers different frame sizes to improve comfort and productivity—from large 18-inch Revolution™ frames for covering wide areas quickly to compact Jumbo Mini frames for tight or hard-to-reach spaces.

How do I clean roller covers used with latex or water-based paint?

Cleaning is simple. Wash the roller cover with warm water and soap, then rinse until clean. Repeat if needed. You can also use a Brush & Roller Cleaner to remove excess paint.

How do I clean roller covers used with oil-based or solvent paints?

Choose a suitable cleaning solvent and carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Pour the cleaner into a container, dip the roller cover into it, then repeat the process with a fresh container and clean solvent.

Can I soak a brush in warm water to remove dried latex paint?

Soaking a brush for too long in warm water can damage it. Instead, use hot soapy water to soften the dried paint and act quickly. Once softened, work the soap through the bristles and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Repeat if needed.

I used a natural bristle brush with latex paint. Is it ruined?

No, the brush can be restored. First, clean it with warm soapy water and let it dry completely. Then apply a small amount of raw linseed oil into the bristles. Repeat the process if necessary until the bristles regain softness. Finish by combing the brush and storing it properly until next use.

Can I use a wire brush to clean a paintbrush?

No. A wire brush can damage the tips of the bristles. Instead, use a proper paintbrush comb to remove paint from inside the brush safely.

Does storing a brush in the fridge prevent it from drying out?

No, this is a misconception. While low temperatures may slow drying, they increase the risk of paint hardening inside the brush. Additionally, paint odors can transfer to food. It’s best to store a clean, dry brush properly instead.

What are the differences between filament types?

Purdy brushes use various bristle types and blends, each suited for specific coatings. In general, synthetic brushes work best with water-based paints, while natural bristles are ideal for oil-based paints, stains, and finishes.

Why do brush handles come in different shapes?

Handle design affects comfort and control. Rattail handles are long and thin for pencil-like grip, fluted handles have angled edges for better handling, beavertail handles are thicker and rounded for a firm grip, and short handles are ideal for tight spaces. Explore different handle types to find what suits you best.

Why should I invest in high-quality painting tools?

The main reason is the result. Professional painters rely on Purdy tools because they deliver consistent, high-quality finishes. The brushes are handcrafted from premium materials for durability and long-term use. The same attention to quality applies to Purdy rollers and accessories, helping you achieve better outcomes on every project.
